Design Narrative
This project was assigned to our office when the concrete structure, staircase, and part of the construction work had already been completed. The client asked us to undertake the interior design of the residential units and the design of the building’s exterior façade.
In the initial approach to the façade design, the project was primarily limited to creating a new skin for the building. However, we decided to go beyond a purely visual layer and enhance the building’s spatial depth and functional qualities through the design of a movable façade. The horizontal movable louvers allowed residents to adjust the degree to which the façade was open or closed according to different conditions. When the louvers were closed, a semi-private space was created for each unit, increasing privacy while also allowing residents to control daylight and protect the terraces from wind and rain.
Since the building’s main walls had already been constructed, the project budget was limited and extensive changes to the interior organization were not possible. Therefore, our approach to the interior design focused on creating spatial qualities through new architectural elements. By using planes and surfaces arranged along the X and Y axes, we sought to introduce new spatial and visual layers and, while respecting the existing constraints, create a contemporary and luxurious environment.
In the selection of materials, we emphasized the use of pure and natural materials to create a warm, enduring, and high-quality atmosphere alongside the project’s modern design language.
